Columbus Blue Jackets is an American hockey team based in Columbus, Ohio and has been a member of the NHL since 2000. Home games for Blue Jackets are played in the Nationwide Arena. The arena was built at the same stage as the team was formed. The team is part of the Metropolitan Division along with the Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. The Blue Jacket's name and logo are inspired by the active participation of the state of Ohio in the American Civil War, including the manufacture of the blue uniforms used.
