The Buffalo Sabers was founded in 1970 and is based in Buffalo, New York. The team has been a member organization of the NHL since its inception. The home matches are played in Keybank Center, which seats just over 19,000 spectators. The team is part of the Atlantic Division. The name Sabers was chosen by George "Punch" Imlach on the grounds that a saber was a weapon with which one can both defend oneself and attack. The Sabers have so far never won the Stanley Cup. Famous players who played with the Sabers include Gilbert Perreault, Dominik Hašek, Pat LaFontaine and Aleksandr Mogilnyj.
